The Quick Cut: A freshman at college is accepted as a new member of a small sorority and finds out that they are actually a coven of witches. Things go south when someone undermines the coven. A Real Review: Everyone wants a place where they belong, but not everyone finds it right away. When you're moving from one place to the next, that ability to find a group of friends is even harder. For incoming freshman Vivi, that group of friends will come at a steep price. Vivi has spent her life moving from one city to another with her mother, who makes money by telling people's fortunes with Tarot cards. Now that she's headed to Windsor college on a full ride, she knows her days of isolation and contestant movement are over. Except now she's joining a sorority on campus infamous for it's exclusivity, who also harbor a dark secret. Will this new life be everything she's looking for? Or make her wish for the life she used to know? A coven of witches who cover their secret as a college sorority. It seems so obvious and yet I've never seen it written before. I'm thrilled it's been written now because it's so enjoyable that I couldn't put it down! The characters are so dynamic and complex with an environment that you believe exists. The chapters are narrated by two characters: incoming freshman Vivi and returning junior Scarlett. Without giving away too much, they are yin and yang with the way their characters approach each situation. It's nice to see the dual narration method be used in a smart way, with each one providing essential and unique insight. There is also a love triangle in the story, but it's organic in how it comes along and plays a minor role in the story. A bit cliched but well done. Too often books in the YA genre make these romantic plots sound like a bigger deal than they are, so to see it treated right put a smile on my face. An intriguing story about witches and sororities. My rating: 5 out of 5
