The quick cut: Two teens connect over the summer in the landscape of an odd gothic mansion.

A real review:

Thank you to Dutton Books for Young Readers for providing the arc for an honest review.

Teenagers from vastly different lifestyles can meet in many different ways. They can even find things that they have in common. What happens when they find themselves increasingly connected to each other. This is what happens to Leo and Connor.

Leo was raised by his mother and uncle after his dad died when Leo was two. Connor never knew who her father was and is the daughter of a lifestyle influencer. When these two teens find themselves in a rural Minnesota town for the summer, they become entangled in a relationship together. When the bones of two people are found on the estate of a mansion owned by Connor's family, they become obsessed. Why do they feel so tied to the long dead?

This book is a short read, so it does go very quick. That being said, I really didn't enjoy the final result and while the writing itself definitely has a style, I can't say that anything about worldbuilding or the character development that stuck with me in a good way.

The story itself is a slow pace, which isn't my preferred style admittedly. The really problem for me as a reader is that everything feels disjointed and I don't feel like I actually got to know the characters. At a minimum, this story needed more clarification and development.

A short but disappointing read that doesn't match the description.
