The quick cut: The closing book in this Duology, Iris returns to Oath missing her husband. Meanwhile, Roman has no memory of who he is and finds himself stuck in Dacre's realm.

A real review:

All relationships have their happy and difficult moments, but what would you do if your spouse was being held hostage with no memory of you at all? This is the case for Iris and Roman.

Iris returned to Oath broken and bruised two weeks ago with no word on where Roman has gone. Determined not to stay and wait for the inevitable arrival of the conflict, she agrees to go back out and report on the movements of Dacre's soldiers. Can Iris play a role in beating Dacre? Where is Roman in all this?

I admittedly enjoyed the second book more than the first, but it still felt like certain spots in the plot moved too fast. At 400+ pages, you'd think that wouldn't be possible. The relationship between Iris and Roman is enchanting enough to make that less of a distraction though.

This book starts with Roman not remembering who he is and who he's married to. It's fun to see Iris have to rebuild their relationship while not putting their lives at any more risk than they already are. These two really do go through all the relationship stages in this book all over again.

The ending is one I saw coming, but that didn't make the story any less enjoyable. The characters and their relationship to one another is the focal point.

A fun ending to a fantasy based duology.

My rating: 4 out of 5
