The Quick Cut: A boy dealing with his father leaving his mom finds a girl in the empty field next to his house. Drama ensues as her claims of being an alien seem more believable. A Real Review: Aliens. Some people swear that they have encountered them while others think they're not real. It's a topic we may never know the answer to but will likely always be hotly debated. It's the topic that Matt is forced to deal with in this summer based contemporary novel. Matty is dealing with unfortunate circumstances right now. His father took off in the middle of the night with the woman he's been having an affair with. Plus, his father is the one that has spent Matty's life as a minor celebrity expert in aliens. It's all making for a tough time with his mother when he discovers a girl in the field next to his house. She claims to be an alien waiting for a ride back to her planet. Is it true she's an alien or is something more going on? If you're a fan of contemporary novels (or specifically Five Feet Apart), you're likely to enjoy this one. It makes you question reality while seeing into some of the most complex situations in the characters lives. You can't help but be intrigued as things change. Matty is easy to like. He's going through so much and trying to deal with the feelings he has around his dad. Priya being around forces him to deal with that face on. Watching how their dynamic makes him wonder if she's being truthful about who she is makes for an internal conflict you watch play out. A cute contemporary in book. My rating: 5 out of 5
