You'll Be the Death of Me by Karen M McManus

The quick cut: Three teens who used to be close friends skip school together and stumble on the murder of a classmate. Chaos ensues when they try to figure out who did it. A real review: Life can run you down and sometimes a person needs a break, even as a teenager. For three teens who used to be close, their day skipping school turns even more stressful than being at school would have. Ivy, Mateo, and Cal used to be the closest of friends in middle school. However, when they reached high school, they all went their own ways. Now, they're all struggling with their own issues and need a break from life. By chance, they all end up walking in to school at the same time and decide to skip together. It starts fun until they stumble on a classmate dead. Who killed him and how do they clear their names? I love a good fast paced story and this one certainly kept me reading from the start. Seeing these friends reconnect and try to get a break from their lives is fun, especially as they start to see more of their current lives. It's even more fun seeing the chaos when things go south. I enjoyed about 90% of this story, so you may be wondering why the 4 out of 5. That's because of the ending. I enjoy stories that give you indications of who the killer was, give you an opportunity to figure it out. With the ending of this one, it felt like that was never a chance. It feels like cheating as a reader. With an unsatisfying ending, this story starts strong but ends weak. My rating: 4 out of 5
