The quick cut: A shape shifter and a witch work together to try and use a resurrection spell.

A real review

Thank you to Wednesday Books for providing the arc for an honest review.

Losing people isn't easy and everyone grieves differently. If you thought it was your fault, you'd likely want to do whatever it took to get them back. How far would you go to bring back your partner? For Lando - it's very far to bring back their girlfriend named Elizabeth.

Lando is a nonbinary shape shifter who cannot control their shifts between genders or their magic. When their girlfriend named Elizabeth dies in accident, it leaves them even further isolated from their college classmates. When a new student named Bastian joins the school and meets Lando, he makes a surprising offer: work together and Bastian can help Lando bring Elizabeth back. Will it work?

The idea for this story is a good one and generally well written. Lando as a character though is pretty interesting and boring to read. Luckily, Bastian is very fun and saves the story here from being absolutely dull.

Lando is isolated and alone. They've experienced terrible behavior from classmates that go beyond bullying. Going through all of that without anyone to depend on is almost impossible to imagine.

Bastian is new, mysterious, and absolutely funny. He's the type of guy who I wish really existed because I absolutely would get along with him. The way he listens to Lando and cares about them - it's true partnership.

A fun fantasy with a boring main character.

My rating: 3.75 out of 5
