The Summer She Went Missing by Chelsea Ichaso

The quick cut: A girl works with her ex to find her best friend who disappeared a year prior after another girl disappears.

A real review:

Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire for providing the arc for an honest review.

What would you do if your best friend disappeared? How far would you go to find her true whereabouts? For Paige, this is a very real concern.

Paige has always felt lucky to spend summers up at Clearwater Ridge with her best friend Audrey Covington and family. When Audrey's brother Dylan started noticing Paige, she thought it was going to be the greatest summer ever. Suddenly though, Audrey started acting different. Then she disappeared altogether. A year later and she's still gone, with no one understanding what happened. Now another girl has disappeared and Paige is convinced the disappearances are linked. What is happening?

This story definitely gave me A Good Girl's Guide to Murder vibes, so if you enjoyed that story, you're likely to enjoy this one. The mystery between the girls is more interesting than I anticipated, but Paige as the main character isn't as dynamic as I wished she was.

Paige is dedicated to finding out the truth about her best friend, even if that means working with her ex. She's dedicated to doing what it takes to finding out what happened to Audrey, especially since she changed before she disappeared. I wish her character and why she felt so strongly was more thoroughly discussed. The way it was written felt one dimensional.

Most of the chapters are from Paige's perspective with a few from the perspective of "The Girl". I loved those short break ins because it made you wonder who that was and how it would tie together in the end. It added some much needed intrigue.

A fun mystery that could use more depth.
