Neurodiversity at Work by Theo Smith & Amanda Kirby

The Quick Cut: A book that discusses the details of what neurodiversity is, how it can impact individuals, and steps you can take to include them in the workplace.

A Real Review: Neurodiversity is a term that many may not be familiar with or even heard of, but it has been around for quite some time. In today's society, it is a term that is growing quite some traction and attention as more businesses change their processes to be more inclusive of those with unique skill sets. What can you do to be more neurodiverse friendly? This book explores that in great detail. Yes, this book very much explores how neurodiversity can impact the workplace. However, if you are new to the world of neurodiversity - this book is still well worth the read for you. While many chapters go into workplace related details like meetings or accommodations, it also goes into great detail about the basics of what neurodiversity is and how you can integrate it into your everyday life. Beyond that, it also provides a significant amount of research into neurodiversity, including the links to these various related studies. In short, it gives you a strong place to start from and learn more about what neurodiversity is and how it can impact you. The only real weakness to this book is that it is very UK based (like the authors). Some of the verbiage they use is also highly UK based, so some readers may not immediately understand what they mean. Knowing that beforehand can make it easier to read going into it though. It would have been nice though if they spent some time going into the legal options of other major countries too, like the US. It's a minor flaw though and definitely didn't take away much from the reading experience. A significant step forward in improving neurodiversity efforts, both at home and at work. My rating: 4.75 out of 5
