The quick cut: A teen guy is surprised when his college roommate changes to the prince of hell. Chaos ensues when they begin fake dating.

A real review:

Thank you to Wednesday Books for providing the arc for an honest review.

College is a difficult time. Between just starting your adult life and trying to determine who you want to be, it can feel like every decision has long term implications. For Owen, this is very true when his college roommate is switched from a regular guy like him to the prince of hell.

Owen isn't going to college for partying and fun. He's going to stay focused on the goal so he can get a good job and set himself up for life. It's something he's prepared for until his roommate is changed at the last minute and now it is Zarmenus, the prince of hell. Will they find a way to live together? Or create chaos for each other?

This is a cute romcom with a queer and fantasy twist. Owen is the human who is goal oriented and wanting success. Zarmenus is the demon who has been saddled with a big reputation based on where he's from and his expected future.

Owen makes a great main character because he's focused on success instead of fun and the relationships he could build. It's easy to cut yourself off a part of the college experience, but it's an important one! Enjoying your life and studying for the future need to be done in balance.

Zarmenus comes off as the typical demon stereotype at first, but slowly reveals himself to be wanting more. Who he appears to be is different than how he presents himself.

While it's a cute story, it also packs the depth I typically like with my reading.

A light hearted queer romance story.

My rating: 3.5 out of 5
