The Quick Cut: A romance author struggling with her career finds the rest of her life gets even tougher when a cocky businessman rubs her the wrong way. Sparks fly as they get to know each other. A Real Review: Thank you to GC Books for providing the ARC for an honest review. It's inevitable: at some point in your life, you will run into somebody who you don't get along with. Whether it is now or later, eventually you will have to rise about their snide remarks or frustrating attitude to be a better person. For Bianca, that moment is now when she meets the enraging Brett. Bianca is not in a good place in her life. Her career as a romance author is not going as well as she hoped and her mother has long passed on. Her father also made it abundantly clear that nothing lasts and he doesn't support her career. To make it all worse though, she can't stand Brett - a cocky, confident businessman who seems to bring out the worst in her. Where these two start out as enemies, the more they get to know each other - they find that the fury they share turns into passion. Can these two put their frustration for one another aside? Or will they end up never getting along instead? I wanted to like this one more than I did. It's a cute story and the plot line itself is one that can be found in romance often. The enemies to lovers trope isn't anything new. However, the problem that I primarily had with this story is how unlikable our two leads are. For Brett, starting out as unlikable is on purpose. He comes off as a total jerk, but the more you get to know him - the more you realize that there is something happening under the surface. Although I eventually warmed up to him, his initial impression was one I couldn't shake. While Brett's initial impression is on purpose, I'm fairly certain that Bianca's was not. She has so many issues and by the end of the book it felt like she still didn't learn her lesson. She gets what she wants and has a happy ending, but she still seems to blame other things for her problems instead of dealing with them. Her health is something she doesn't seem to think is a priority on any level. As someone who struggles with theirs on a regular basis, it just made me continue to like her less. Own up to your problems rather than passing the blame on. A story with a usual storyline that has unlikable characters. My rating: 3 out of 5
