The Quick Cut: Three teen girls work together in order to get the revenge they need on the bad moments from their pasts.
A Real Review:
Revenge is a feeling that a good majority of the population feels at one point or another. We get slighted in one way or another and the pain from those occurrences causes us to want to right the scales of life. For Kat, Lillia, and Mary, revenge is something they collectively strive for when they work together to get revenge on the people who hurt them in the past.
Kat has been getting bullied by her best friend. Lillia recently found out her little sister is hooking up with one of her guy friends. Mary is haunted by a traumatic event from the past involving a boy at school that never goes away. These three went through terrible incidents (some ongoing) and can't help but want to take back the power they once had. So when they come together and decide to get their power back by getting revenge as a unit, they start planning and taking action. Will they get caught for their own treachery or will they instead find that revenge is sweet?
Is it strange that the first thing I thought of while reading this was the teen movie "John Tucker Must Die"? It hits those same tonalities and storylines without the girls working together wanting revenge on the same person. Where the movie though ends up telling an intriguing story that makes a point, the book doesn't have that same nail on the head.
Of the three girls, Kat is the one that I related with the most. However, I've been in her shoes with the bullying in the past, so that makes sense. While the book doesn't have some big moral truth to tell you, it is a fun and easy read. I finished this one in an afternoon and considering that each girl has a slightly different story, the chances are that you can relate to one of them.
A fun, flirty read that you will get through quickly.
My rating: 3 out of 5
