A Real Review:

I finally carved the time this weekend to read the final installment of the Illuminae Files trilogy and found myself... disappointed. Seriously, this one definitely fell hard from where it originally started and I have never been more sad.

Don't get me wrong - I still am in love with this concept of writing. It takes the experience of reading to a whole new level that is rarely achieved and that was done fantastically in the beginning. However, this go round there wasn't a lot of variety in the evidence provided. A significant percentage of the writing this book had was video analysis by an analyst - which is basically your stereotypical writing that can be found in any book. It got very monotonous fast for a book that I expected to envelop and entrap me.

The battles and people are amazing as always - the emotions riding higher than ever (and feeling more real than before). In that final battle, things got very tense very fast with many fates held in the balance. Too bad the ending puts all that buildup to shame by wrapping everything up in a far too shiny happy bow of an ending. It's enfuriating because it almost takes away all the work and pain those people go through. Really?!?! Although the series has been delightful, the ending falls flat with a far too happy ending and a monotonous writing style.
