Meet the Sky by McCall Hoyle

The Quick Cut: A girl and a guy end up depending on each other to survive through one of the worst storms to hit their hometown of the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

A Real Review:

McCall Hoyle has a real eye for detail, constantly weaving a tapestry of landscaping and emotion in one phenomenal novel. In her second book, she tackles a story of two teens and their reconnection after a past filled with pain (both individual and combined).

Sophie is a girl whose father abandoned their family when the going got tough. After an accident left Sophie's sister Meredith a fraction of what she just was, all of Sophie's focus went on keeping the rest of her world in balance. Anything and anyone throwing that off isn't okay.

First and foremost to throw that balance for Sophie is Finn. Finn is a boy that also went through pain when his father died. However, rather than try and hold what little he had left the way it was - he took the opposite route. Living every moment like it matters, he refuses to let life slip by again.

Then a hurricane hits their little island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and these two are found stuck with each other. Separated from their family and unable to escape the storm, they struggle through winds, wounds, and oncoming waves. In the midst of all that chaos, they also learn a lot about one another, their past with each other, and even what that means in their life right now. Sophie and Finn are adorable opposites in perspective that learn from each other. It's a scenario that may seem slightly far fetched, but is actually very possible and in this context, feels truly real. Their chemistry also put a smile ony face with the nicknames that Finn kept using like Soph or Bookworm. How can you not fall for this guy?

A heartfelt book, the story of Sophie and Finn is told elegantly in the backstory of a hurricane. Between the gorgeous landscape of the Outer Banks and the amazing characters, this book is absolutely worth the read.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
